Return to Sport (RTS) testing is a structured assessment completed by a Physiotherapist used to determine whether your body is ready to safely return to sport after an injury. It evaluates strength, mobility, balance, power, agility, and sport-specific movement patterns to ensure you can perform at a high level without increased risk of re-injury.
RTS testing is important because returning to sport too early can significantly increase the chance of re-injury. RTS testing helps you, your Physiotherapist, and your coach make an informed, evidence-based decision by comparing your results to :
- your uninjured side
- sport-specific demands
- age and sex matched norms
- your pre-injury performance when available
It gives you confidence that you’re truly ready!
RTS testing is good for
- ligament injuries (e.g. ACL, ankle sprains)
- muscle strains (e.g. hamstring, quad, calf)
- post-surgical rehab
- shoulder injuries (e.g. instability, rotator cuff)
- overuse or impact injuries in runners, field sport athletes, and court sport athletes
